Old Nice
It is lively during the day by many shops, which can be as well very typical (selling olives and spices of all kinds, local vegetables or flowers of the region) as very modern (trendy clothing shops, Many tattoo artists) as well as galleries of artists. At night, it is a place of rendezvous and exit for the Nice. Its narrow streets are indeed strewn with restaurants, pubs and clubs of all kinds.
Old Nice is bordered:
In the east: by the hill of the castle (the fortress in question was destroyed in 1704 by the troops of Louis XIV besieging the city once more, one of the bullets fired by the besiegers falling into the powder reserve of the citadel );
To the south: by the sea and the quay of the United States (extension of the Promenade des Anglais);
To the west: by the cover of the Paillon (on which the Place Masséna and the Théâtre national de Nice are built);
To the north: by the place Garibaldi.
The district includes several administrative buildings such as the town hall or the courthouse. There is also the Opéra de Nice.
